    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    James Demile boxing record.

James Demile is listed as having an Air Force amateur boxing record of over 100 wins with no defeats. I can't seem to find any info on his boxing career or proof.

With a record like that he would have to be considered one of the best if not the best amateur HW of all time and would have been tagged for the Olympic trials at the very least. I've talked to a few amateur boxing experts who say they have no recollection of anyone with such a record.

Any ideas or info on this subject?

    Beat me to it.

I trained with Sijo Demile in the 90's. I don't recall him stating a numerical record in his bio materials back then, but I do remember him claiming some sort of armed forces boxing title. I'm pretty sure his branch of service was Air Force.

    Here's the (semi)official bio from http://www.usadojo.com/biographies/james-demile.htm
In 1959, James W. DeMile began his martial arts career in Seattle, Washington, under the direction of the legendary Bruce Lee. As one of Bruce's first generation students, Mr.DeMile had the opportunity of assisting Bruce in developing his unique fighting skills. It was also DeMile's privilege to appear in Bruce's only book, "The Philosophical Art of Self Defense". DeMile was an undefeated heavyweight boxer in the Air Force as well as "Masters Level" hand to hand combat instructor for the (Special Forces Combative's) program at Fort Lewis in 1985 and 1986.
This is the only mention of boxing on Demile's official website (http://www.wingchundo.com/)
Previous to training with Bruce Lee, DeMile was the "Duke" of the Capitol Hill gang in Seattle and an undefeated heavyweight boxer in the Air Force.
Where's this claim of 100's of wins coming from?

Here is a link and quote....

    http://www.cityonfire.com/unknown/in...mile/index.htm

"Aloha Kevin, I never get tired of reflecting on my time with Bruce because there were only a few of us who have the memories that are part of his Legacy. I was a heavyweight boxer in the Air Force. Over a four year period I had over a hundred fights and never lost one."

That's one where he is directly quoted. Some other sites I have seen have said his record was anywhere from 125 to 150 fights with no losses.

    Another one. http://www.ambroseacademy.com/history.htm

"He became the Heavy Weight Champion of the Air Force for two years. He found his aggressiveness as a street fighter worked well in the boxing ring. He was undefeated and won 128 fights."

In this one he's the Air Force HW boxing champ for 2 years. The link is to a Wing Chung Do academy.

Hmmm... from what I know about military boxing, I'd say he's counting smokers because that's too many fights to all be official ammy bouts. Either that or he's lying, but I'd be surprised.

So we going with "Bullshido" then when it comes to his boxing record?

    * I'm going to recuse myself from investigating this because I know the guy.

C'mon Gorgo, you've been here long enough to know that you haven't established anything either way. You need to get James' Ammy boxing record and compare it to the claim. If that proves impossible, then I would get the records of other Air Force boxers and see how the volume of bouts compares. If its radically different from JD's claim of 100+ (ie: average 25 or so) then you can make a case that he is likely to be lying.

I'm going to make a prediction: He was post champion for 4 years and fought smokers twice a month against slobs. If something like that turns out to be the case, it does serious damage to Bruce Lee's reported ability to trap on the street against an elite ammy boxer (JD).

Not until a proper investigation has been done. I have yet to have time to research it. I plan to make some time tomorrow or Saturday, but can make no guarantees

Been doing some digging and it's hard to find records. I did find this person though... Pete Rademacher who had a record of 72-7 and was a HW Army boxer during the period Demile would have been in the Air Force. This person was also the All Service champion which means he would have to have beaten the Air Force, Marine, and Navy champions to become "All Service"

He also won a gold medal at the Melbourne Olympics. Being a military champion in the 50's meant you were on or very close to being on the Olympic team. In fact 5 of the boxers were in the service during the 56 Olympics.

Being an undefeated and Air Force Champion would have been something pretty special.
