I don't understand all the Mir hate. Guy was already champion before, and it's not like he's a gatekeeper. He's beaten top fighters, what gives?

Brock is going to fight again, he's supposed to be back in training. This means there's no need to strip him of the title. However, we don't know when he'll be back, so we use the Interim. Isn't that what usually happens when the champ is injured? Brock may not be cage-ready until late fall or even next year, there's no reason to keep the belt out of circulation until then.

    I don't hate Mir at all. I think he's a tremendous personality.

Where did you hear that he's back in training already?

As you can see, the UFC DOES have ranking, and Mir is ranked number 2. The question is WHY?

Arent Mir and Lesner 1-1? I'd like to see them fight to settle that, if nothing else. But like someone said, if Lesner looses his first fight back, I hope people aren't using his illness as an excuse. If he returns (on his own terms) I expect him to be prepared.

Those are not official rankings. The UFC does not rank it's fighters. Those are rankings of UFC fighters as MMASurvival.com sees them.

Upon further review, this information might be a bit dated, since Randy said he spoke with Brock a little before Christmas, which was about a month ago now.

As far as I see it, it's more of a question of how many times we really need to see Lesnar make Mir his bitch. Mir was getting manhandled in the first fight before they got stood up and Lesnar made a rookie mistake to put himself in a kneebar. The second fight speaks for itself. Mir's not a bad fighter by any means, but he just doesn't seem to have the skillset, or mindset for that matter, to beat Lesnar. Besides, you've got other guys like Velasquez, Dos Santos, and Carwin all on the way up who are winning consistently who deserve the shot more.

I hadn't seen that Carwin and Mir are fighting for the actual title. Interesting, though. I've always felt like there needed to be some kind of rule about how long a champion can go without defending the belt before he's stripped of it, beyond the whim of the promotion. Personal opinions of Lesnar aside, it was ludicrous that he won the heavyweight title from Couture, who hadn't fought in a year and a half.

I don't understand how anyone can say they couldn't tell Mir was bigger except on the scales. The dudes back was massive in the last fight compared to previous outings.

Yep. He just talked to this doctor about a week ago about his healing and prospects about fighting or getting major surgery and it appears that everyone who knows about how that conversation went is being completely quiet about the situation, which is why I'm skeptical when someone says that there's a definite fight for him on the horizon.

I don't see how anyone can say Mir isn't in the top 4 for belt contention. He smashed Nog and beat Kongo way faster than most guys beat Kongo. I think Nog, Mir, Cain, and Carwin all could be said to deserve a title shot, so naturally having them all fight each other is the best solution. Santos is my fav fighter in HW and should be next in line to move into the top of the division once the top 4 guys start knocking each other down. It's not that he doesn't deserve to be at the top, its that the other guys deserve it more right now.
