I should not have to explain this to you.

This is what happens to people when Aikido is allowed to pollute Judo.

And this is why I'm dropping my USJA membership and going through USJF. Competing for points sucks at my age and with my schedule, but so be it.

I've been doing judo almost 2.5 years (Ikkyu). I've been doing aikido almost that long, and I've been doing karate off and on for about 20 years, but most of that was informal.

Well, for starters, in neither case were north-south elbows used... They are illegal to use on a downed opponent in MMA competitions anymore by the way.

Second, I said "with sufficient power". In both cases the attacker was using arm strength to deliver strikes, and not dropping body weight.

Third, MMA competition have outlawed strikes to the back of the head, the neck, and the spine because these blows can be fatal. Kidney strikes have more leeway because they aren't instantly fatal. The UFC disallows heel kicks to the kidneys.

Forth, did you notice that in both cases, these strikes ended the fight? What if a ref isn't there to stop a fight and the blows keep coming? Then they would die.

The bottom layer consists of heavy springs sandwiched between layers of plywood. The top layer is made of up Swain mats covered with canvas. It is a luxury, and thanks for noticing, Ignorami.

Also, anybody is welcome to come check out the dojo if you happen swing through OKC. Everybody is treated with respect, and egos are left in the parking lot.
The entire assembly was moved from the old I-40 location after Nick took over Windsong from Chuck Caldwell and moved to the current place.

A layer of plywood with (guessing) at least a hundred automotive valve springs attached to each 4x8 sheet. Two layers of plywood on top, screwed together.

Two different layers of mats with different thickness and density. A canvass cover stretched over all and tightened through eye bolts.

A true thing of beauty and best shock absorption of any tatami I've experienced. Footing is fantastic, especially those turning and pivot movements that tend to be hard on the knees where some mats can tend to grab the foot.

Only downside is if you burn a foot, knee or whatever on the canvas. Hydrogen peroxide and cotton balls to clean any blood.

Windsong does have possibly the premiere mat in the state.

Oh, thanks for the details hungryjoe... Yeah, even Hener Gracie was highly impressed when he visited to do a guest a seminar.
