The point of the UFC is not excitement. I can't believe people keep using this argument.
The point of WWE is excitement. The point of the UFC is to have real fights, or as the slogan says, as real as it gets. Sure, it's fun to watch, and rightly so, but the point (aka the number one objective) should NEVER be to entertain, but to FIGHT. -

No. UFC is entertainment, first and foremost. It is nice to find out who the best fighter in the world is, but when you get down to basics, the UFC is a business and their particular brand of business is entertainment. Why do you think that Kimbo is signed?
Now, luckily for us, the Fertittas and Dana really do give a crap about martial arts and so they dont' give undeserved title shots or anything. I think the current Zuffa model has struck the right balance between entertainment and sporting event.
So, TS, stop crying, they are winning and that is all that really matters. -

wait for market effeciency to strike.
if too many fighters win fights without making them entertaining for the viewers, people will stop buying tickets or paying for lackluster PPV's and start running to other promotions where fights end in KO or Submissions.
UFC will then lower the winning purses and increase or start making purses for the KIND of victory you get, as well as increase the KO and Sub of the night awards, then fighters who want to earn more money might stop playing safe.

Evans/Silva was exciting. He had exciting doubles and slams.
Evans' strategy seemed to be "punch and maybe kick then knock him down stay on top and hit him while on top." If that's not exciting then maybe watching fighting isn't really for you.
People have different definitions of boring. Guardwork is boring for half the crowd. Clinchwork is boring for lots of people. Two people who look they're competing in kickboxing in an octagon is boring for some people.
What's boring is when people don't take chances. BJ Penn biding his time makes me stupefyingly bored. Anderson Silva not going for the KO against Thales Leites is boring. To me Rashad Evan's strikes + takedowns approach was visually exciting. What a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable. -Xenophon's Socrates -
