Well, let me first tell you that I own/Have owned the following handguns:
3 1911s
2 Glocks
1 .357/.38 S&W Revolver
1 Browning BDA .380
1 HK USPct .45
And finally my P228... Best handgun I've owned.
Beats all 3 1911s hands down, and one of them was a SA Operator. Beats the USP easily in overall quality. The HK feels cheap compared to a SIG IMO. Just takes the lead over the Glock by just a bit. As for the others, it doesn't really compare to a wheelgun or .380 very well.
My advice would be to buy one for sure, but don't buy any US made SIGs with internal extractors. External only. If you can find a W. German, they only make them with internal extractors, but they make them with far better quality. If you find a West German SIG 228 or 229, grab it. -

Thanks for the tip. The research I've done so far implies that the 229s all have external now, how does a pistol noob tell the difference?

Am I correct in identifying the 228 on this page having an internal extractor and the 229s as external? Also, where can I tell where it was made, will it be stamped on the slide?
