Museum Replicas used to sell a stripped down, full tang ninjato some time ago. Don't know if they still have it.
Their site has what they call a "Practical Ninjato", but it looks more frilly to me than practical at first glance.

Chriswell of Oregon.
Makes his swords out of A-2 tool steel. So you can cut through car doors and stuff if you're so inclined. Sounds "functional" to me. Most of his stuff is Katana length, but I have seen 22" blade examples of his work. Pourpose built fighting sword, of modern material. Even the scabbards are made from some ridiculously strong polymer compound.
