He appears to be Yoshinkan based as far as I can tell, it always puzzles me the need to add "Aiki" to new fusion martial arts. Is it really that valuable a marketing tool?

It's a 'mix of martial arts' now, you see?

I hear that some people are going for that now. :happy5:

The whole thing seems pretty crappy to me...just the name "AikiSambo" sounds stupid.

Your best bet is to verify his credentials. He may be legit, but the combination sounds plain silly. In fact, the whole idea in sambo is to combine things, take what works, and disregard what does not. So, in theory, there is no need to create a new "name"...unless you want tp try to market yourself.

That being said, I never heard of it before.

Yeah - but this guy can now proudly proclaim that he can do twisty stuff to both wrists *and* ankles... :XXarcade:

FWIW, it comes across as though he's added some Sambo techniques that he likes to the Aikido.

EDIT: Someone did say in one of the other threads that Judo and Aikido complement each other well, if 'done right'. Considering that Sambo is rooted in Judo, then he might actually be on to something that's 'not useless'.

    The full contact Aikido thread.

Judo base + Aikido > Aikido base + Judo.

Guess what his base art is?
