You know I was going to find the threads but, this thread is funny.

Kung Fu Does Work... or Wing Chun Doesn't Suck ... or uh, not Traditional WC - No BS MMA and Martial Arts

For those that don't find Tom Kagan or jnp funny need to read this thread.

In that full contact chun clip. What the crap was the ref doing to the one fighter at the very end of the clip ? It's all I can think about now.

Well, I for one hadn't seen that particular video before...

It does raise an interesting question I think.

Is hard contact sparring still to be considered such, if both opponents do not know how to make actual contact? If their strikes, knees and kicks end in soft slaps, because they obviously don't know how to do them?

Even following the weak concepts of toilet-style kung-fu, it should be possible to deliver more force then those two did.

    I dunno. I haven't actually watched it.

I've kicked the habit. The Chun is screwing up my mind and I just won't go there anymore.

I can safely assume that all Wing Chun is crap and I will live a happy and full life absent sans *FOOM*

The biggest guy with the longest reach always won because none of the students had the concept of actual defense for defense.
Every match followed as such, the 2 opponents chain punch one another at the same time. The shorter one loses, gets taken to the ground, and will get a Wing Chun version of ground and pound before tapping. On 1 or 2 occasions a student would kick the kicking leg of his opponent, so as to divert it. That's about it.

Chun science, innit? Doesn't matter to them about hitting hard, provided that they hit the same spot repeatedly with multiple chained strikes. It's the battering ram vs. drawbridge principle. :deadhorse

In WWII, the French had constructed the Maginot Line defenses with concrete thick enough to withstand direct hits from huge artillery. What they didn't count on was the German 88-crews being so accurate that they would repeatedly hit the same target, driving shell upon shell, until they drove a hole thru the concrete shell and blew up the fortifications...:5huh:

    ^__^

See? Why am I doing this?
