    Hell yeah! Hell no!
Iím no Karate expert ( I did Wado Ryu for 4 years from the age of 10-14) but we always spared full contact and it wasnít point sparing either.
That said I think our instructor was slightly mad and did kinda remind me of John Kreese from the Karate Kid.

No, that is the problem with the quality control in alot of Karate styles.
In one style some clubs are so good that they look like Kyokushin and some clubs are so bad that they make mall TSD look like Kyokushin.

    Vitor Belfort.

Some karate is good. Tested for Orange last night. 15 minute warmup. Stances. Blocks. Kicks. Then we lined up, descending 20 pushups 20 situps down to zero while it was four up for hitting the thai bags. Obviously we all dissolved into a pile of sweat. It was ridiculous. Then forms. Rounded out by a gauntlet of five that we all rotated through. I got punched in the face, kicked in the stomach, and I'm still limping from the kick to my left thigh. I was so embarrassed I am seriously thinking of giving up my Kyokushin tag.
"We often joke -- and we really wish it were a joke -- that you will only encounter two basic problems with your 'self-defense' training.
    1) That it doesn't work
    2) That it does work"

nonsense the fact that your back training shows that you still got the spirit and besides it wouldn't be a test unless you really TESTED yourself. keep on keeping on.
