Shooting at Ft. Hood, TX

Seven dead, 12 wounded as of now. One shooter in custody, possibly 2 more at large. This is bad, really bad. :(

This is pretty unsettling, as I have a lot of friends stationed at Ft. Hood. Thankfully, most of them are currently deployed, and the one that I know is home I've already heard from.

I think this is one of the few times that I'm thankful that some of my friends are deployed right now...

I pray for a speedy recovery to the 31 wounded...and swift (and painful) justice to those who did this...

The scarry part is, the shooter was an army psychiatrist, and a psychologist. What does it take to set a guy like that off?

A law enforcement official identified the shooting suspect as Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan.

Military officials say Hasan, 39, was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to the Texas base in July. The officials, who had access to Hasan's military record, said he received a poor performance evaluation while at Walter Reed. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because military records are confidential.

The Virginia-born soldier was single with no children. He graduated from Virginia Tech University, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001. At Walter Reed, he did his internship, residency and a fellowship.

Officials were investigating whether Hasan was his birth name or if he may have changed his name, possibly as part of a conversion to Islam. However, they were not certain of his religion.

Damn, he even got some of the SWAT guys.

The local news is reporting that 12 people are confirmed dead, 31 are wounded, including some SWAT members who responded to the shooting. One shooter was caught immediate. A second shooter with a high powered sniper rifle exchanged fire with the SWAT, the local news reported.

Sounds like the shooters were a bit more than the average bear.

I have a feeling this story is going to be deeper than the initial thoughts. It was the topic of conversation today.

BTW 4 day weekend for me! Ever heard of an infantry company going 2 years without a DUI? No? Me either. We may have made history.
