Boxer vs. Tae Kwon Do guy

You have to be kidding me, none of those boxers hold real title belts.

There's a photo of a boxer kneeing one of the san shou guys in the nuts, and getting disqualified for it at:

I seem to remember Tyson elbowing Tyrell Biggs in the face. In the replays you could see that it was done pretty blatantly. Also, in a book called Winning at Boxing, they have a section that warns the boxer to watch out for dirty tricks and such like. The photos showed boxers gouging, kneeing, butting and toe stomping. As well as rubbing the gloves laces in the opponents eyes.

I just meant that boxing doesn't allow you to strike below the belt.

Footwork is very important in any style of fighting. Boxing has great footwork.

Kicking should be kept simple, I agree. Anything high risk should be avoided in a fight. A kick may be powerfull but how important is that when it doesn't get to the target or makes you vulnerable trying to do that..

I like boxing a lot. I was just saying that it is intentionally limitied in its range so you can focus on building certain skills. Thus its a drill and not a complete combat art.

I say this because in TKD they have point sparring as their drill but in class they teach other techniques. In boxing what you see is what you get. They don't teach them to wrestle in the gym but tell them they can't use it in the ring.

.. not that TKD teaches a full range of combat, they don't grapple .. they kick and strike.

And if he really sucked, he really sucked.

Yes, in sparring there is alot of gear and limited rules involved, but i've seen many good people.

People had their view on TKD all messed up. There are a hundred lame ass dork TKD guys out there, I know. But just some of us, actually wants to be strong and what not.
I'm not saying i'm biased to TKD, but there's not much choice in the town that I live in.
I know there is a MT school in another town, but it's just not worth if it if takes more time to get there then what i'm going to train.

But what alot of you are doing is "I know boxing. That makes an auto-win vs. TKD in my case uhuhhu"... and we're not like that, are we?

Hell, i'm not going to pretend like I can throw a zillion roundhouses and still win, like they do in the olympics.
What they won't teach me in the dojang, i'll do on my own.
