I am certainly not complaining about Shields failing to finish Mayhem. I said before the fight that anyone thinking that Shields would finish Miller was high; Miller has too good a chin and too good a grappling defense to get finished.

What I am complaining about is that Shields barely even made a token attempt at trying to finish.

i just opened up the video and skipped to a random place in the fight. it happened to be the part where jake was attempting a twister. i decided to take a screen shot of it.

a few seconds later he was in side control, attempting a kimura:

about 15-20 seconds later he was attempting a RNC:

trying to lock it in:

and another shot as he begins to lose it:

as he was trying to set up ANOTHER RNC, miller spun around, ending up on top. then about 2 seconds of a triangle attempt:

and a leglock attempt shortly after:

this was all in the same bit of groundwork which occurred over about 2.5 minutes. not separate parts of the fight. i didn't look any further because i got bored.

i'd also like to add that in his last 10 fights, jake has won 6 by submission. jason has lost 1 fight by submission, which happened in 2002.

Right, so because Shields had a couple sub attempts in a randomly chosen 2.5 minute period it disproves my point about how the vast majority of the fight contained none?

Maybe I've got to watch the fight again, but as I remembered it, Jake was constantly fighting even just to maintain dominant position. Miller has an active top and bottom game, so the few times that Jake managed to even secure a solid position, he was going for subs everywhere he could before Miller slipped out.

as i was looking at that part of the fight, there was one submission attempt coming after another. after i'd seen 5 or so i didn't bother looking anywhere else as i was getting tired of it, and felt that was enough.

i'm going to watch the whole thing again when i get a minute.
