i have a friend that trained with him at LSU for about 5 years that is totally on Rod's jock. he got his brown belt in juko-kai. apparently, besides the goofy combat-ki crap on tv, they did a lot of heavy sparring. basically from what i have been told, juko-kai is karate with some judo throws added to the curriculum.

If you listen to his history it gets very confusing.
Somehow he fought in Korea, Vietnam, all the while being the head instructor of Goju in Okinawa....his commute must have been a bear! -
