Considering enlisting?

Figure up how much it cost a working class civilian to live near your post. Save up six months living expenses at that rate. Do this by living **** ass poor for a while. Dont go into debt. Talk to someone you trust to be knowledgeable and disinterested (no financial stake in your decision) about what accounts to keep savings and investments in.

Most importantly, stay out of debt! If you buy a car, buy a **** ass car that will last you a couple of years. You dont need anything better right now. If you have to have a uniform AND fancy car to get *****, youre doin it wrong.

Make sure that when you buy that "****-ass car" that it will pass inspection and that your lights work on it. When it comes time for weekend liberty, or passes, or leave...if something isn't working...your car goes into the motor pool and is locked away.

Also, dont dismiss the idea of the guard or reserves. If i had it to do over again, reserves and college would have been my choice. ****, if it weren't for a pesky re-4 i would go nat guard now.

I'd trade a Ranger tabbed 400 APFT cockswinging loudmouth fuckup alcoholic for a 250 APFT self-starting, motivated, SPC who can organize, plan and execute the simplest of tasks to my guidance.

Forget about "what it takes" and concentrate more on "who you are". Character and integrity mean more in the Army than some fucking badge, medal, or tab.
