They just don't seem to have as deep a grasp on technique.

I guess it comes down to the fact that I see guys train in an MMA gym and then try and fight after a year or even less training, so they look real green.

Where as in a BJJ school or similar it seems like guys train for a few years and then decide to make the cross into MMA, so they have a lot more experience of mat time, style matches (Judo, kickboxing, sub grappling, etc).

Maybe I'm wrong but so far my observations.
