thank you. can't wait for his fight. I also hear that there going to be opening machida-do schools in america. Can't wait, they'll be like the gracie schools of karate!

It'll be interesting to see if he can produce decent fighters who are recognizable as being trained by him.

You mean "Karate" as in "no grappling, we don't want any fighting here" ?

    Karate is Karate

Karate is an excellent striking system. When somebody trains in Karate by doing kata all day, thats not karate thats krotty. don't blame the song, blame the singer. Machida is demonstrating what karate truly is--a fighting system with punching, kicking, knee strikes, and elbow strikes. Machida said:

“I kneed Tito Ortiz and everyone thought it was muay thai”

“We adapted karate fighting against other styles, because if you analyze karate as a sport, it really has weakened over the years. But if we look at it as a martial art, it has knees, elbows. The kata – moving in an imaginary fight – has that too. It’s that karate geared towards being a martial art that we seek. Of course there’s the sport side with point scoring and all, and even that helps with your performing well because you practice a lot of finding distance, timing,”

“I believe in adapted karate a lot. I spar throughout Brazil. Everywhere I’ve ever been, I am aware that karate provides me with the conditions, just like muay thai – one just needs to practice it in its entirety. One just needs to explore it as a whole. A lot of academies are leaving that aside. A fighter from abroad came over and wanted me to teach some karate to him. I answered: ‘Karate is not what you think it is. That’s not it, I’m not trying to think I’m the best or be pertinacious, but I can’t teach you karate in a month or two. It’s impossible. You need time, two years, three, to understand the fundamentals, moves, to apply them later,’”

Tell Machida that you train karate by doing nothing but kata and he'll probably call you crazy

Its like telling Joe Louis, that all you do is shadow box and jump rope, he'll laugh at you and tell you: "brotha that ain't what boxing is all about! let me tell you the real deal is"

and this one just for laughs:
