    Hell yeah! Hell no!
It definitely sounds like it's more of an advantage for people to train southpaw, regardless of actual handed-ness, although only until it turns out that everyone went southpaw and orthodox becomes the unorthodox style.

As a southpaw, in training you spend 90% of your time sparring against orthodox people.
As a right hander, you only spend 10% of your time preparing to fight a southpaw, something which takes a significant adjustment in style.
    Therefore, Southpaw=Advantage.
But what happens when it's southpaw vs southpaw? :-S

Lefties are technically called "Sinistrals," related to sinister, etc...

In addition, it opens up the ventral surface for strikes against an orothodox fighter. What I mean is an orthodox rear-leg highkick is to the skull and needs to get past the shoulders. A southpaw rear-leg highkick (i.e. Crocop) comes into the face of your opponant.

Left bodykicks hit the liver, right bodykicks don't.

Left legkicks hit the inside leg of an orthodox opponant, right legkicks hit the outside leg.

I originally came from a karate background, so I still find kicking comfortable with either leg. For the face/liver reasons I've mentioned before, I finish a lot of combos with a left switchkick instead of a right kick. Tiips depend on the range.
Just keep in mind that your (orthodox) opponent has the same advantage if he knows how to fight against southpaw. Only difference being anatomical (he'll kick you in the spleen instead of the liver, still pretty nasty).

    Correct.
Plus the "practice" difference: the southpaw probably spars/fights 90% orthodox opponants, while the orthodox probably spars/fights 10% southpaw opponants.

I guess what I'm saying is the southpaw is well-practiced in having those targets as they are, while the orthodox fighter would be less practiced.

Fucking happy that I am one of the very rare left handed people that can use either stance, being somewhat ambidextrous (I favour writing with my left hand). I hated going to a new school and the instructor would go, orthodox or southpaw and I'd be like, it doesn't matter, ie they are both easy for me to apply, and they'd take it like I didn't know anything and they wanted me to "start off" orthodox. All this meant was I had an upper hand in sparring because I'd change my stance regularly to confuse my opponent or simply to test where they had weakness.

Through history and some of the most noteworthy people are left handed:

    - Napolean Bonaparte
    - Joan of Arc
    - Einstein
    - Michaelangelo
    - Rafael
    - Da Vinci
    - Newton
    - Marie Curie
    - Alexander the Great
    The list goes on...

A southpaw who knows how to use good footwork and ring control is fucking unstoppable.
