    No.
All it would serve to do is water down the sport.
i won't be even the least bit surprised if it does happen at some level or another, though. Some jerk off in Alabama with BBelt in mcdojo karate and two years of high school wrestling, fights a couple of smoker matches will call himself an mma fighter and start marketing the belt idea so high school kids can tell thier pals "hey, don't **** with tommy down the street - he's a bbelt in mma.'
    Oh god, please no...

For fighters I dont think it matters, the record shows thier level of experience. For "non Fighters" just doing it for self defense or what ever belts might matter, belts motivate students and pushes them to improve and advance. But as far as the "Pro's" matter, anyone that has seen a fight, could you ever really rank these guys? Would they all be considered "Masters"?

Improve and advance for improvement and advancement's sake, not for a strip of cloth you tie around your waist.

NO. As a pro fighter I say absolutely not. That is what destoyed karate, TKD, judo and some bjj schools etc. This is a sport, like wrestling, like football etc. You have a weight class, training times and a coach to make matches. You are either good or you aren't and a belt isn't going to matter.

The black belt is a beginners rank which yeah indicates you have mastered the basics. Of course, higher karate is perfection of the basics.

A black belt doesn't mean anything other than someone died your belt really dark and that's why you bought it.

That, and whatever importance or value you yourself place on it.

Only a gold belt with loads of stripes counts

The only system's based on MMA that have belts tend to suck, badly.
