In either case, I would move to proven MMA gyms if I was the OP.
Never said he was typical but he is not a Shotokan Ippon Kumite fighter who you would see at World Karate Federation World Championships /
Machida is my favorite fighter . And what makes him not typical MMA is he doesnt alwant want to play the ground and pound game but he is MMA and can go to the ground if he had too. Thats what im trying to saying.
Move along citizen ,nothing to see here !!!!!

There are plenty of successful fighters in MMA who don't 'play the ground and pound game' as a primary strategy...

Dammit foxguitar, your posts make my spleen hurt. I know your competitions have that whole one punch KO thing, but that doesn't mean you can try to apply it to typing as well.

Please type your posts with your fingers rather than your fists, then proof read them and fix any errors before hitting submit.

I think the answer is obvious here, and it doesn't require a battle over style.

If the OP is correct in saying that the MMA schools nearby produce well-ranked UFC fighters, then it's a no brainer. If you want to learn to fight, and there is a place that produces highly-skilled, professional fighters, why would you consider anywhere that wasn't producing the same caliber of fighters?

If your shotokan school is producing world-class athletes, it'd be a different story. But I'd bet my money that the MMA schools produce better fighters.
