Is this the king hit we're talking about? I think we just call them haymakers over here.
You call a huge bongload a haymaker in your neck of the woods? That's kinda cool.

The "king-hit" is generally refered to a heavy punch to the back of someones head or an unexpected punch thrown by someone wanting to do damage before a person is capable of defending themselves....

I hear around many circles that a barefist fight will make the tuck and cover used in boxing ineffective.
    Sorry, what?!

I don't box, I have however been training Muay Thai for a while now.
MMA fighters use this tuck and cover in competition,

how different are mixed martial art gloves to a bare fist? Obviously the MMA gloves will not cut as easily, the size however is nearly the same.

Do boxing gloves make it more effective to do a tuck and cover
Yes, Boxers like any other sport fighter have developed these techniques to be the most effective in their specific rule set.

opposed to the way most TMAs block?
Seriously man www.martialartsplanet.com you will feel quite at home here.

Do you mean the block where they take their hands away from their head to intercept the strike?

If this is what you mean by TMA's blocks being more effective on teh streets.

Please never post on here again.

Could I still do a tuck and cover with bare fists.
Yeah, I think you could, it might hurt more...
Luckily I have some concrete you can borrow.

P.S. Ignore the part of the video after one minute, sorry I didn't watch it all the way through.

    Stupid ninjers.

Wait, you think it's easier to hit through someone's boxing glove augmented guard if you are also wearing boxing gloves? Are you serious?

His notion holds, geometrically speaking, as long as putting on boxing gloves also increases the size of your head.

NO! Do NOT ignore the part after a minute. It's the best part of the video. Seeing the softer side of ninjers is vital to understanding them.

As far as no gloves making the tuck and cover less effective, do an experiment for yourself.

Get in the cover position then let someone punch at you while wearing 16 oz boxing gloves. They don't fit through the gap between your forearms so you don't get hit directly in the face. You are still susceptible to hooks to head or body however.

Next, get the same tuck position and let them come at you with no gloves on (or 4 oz gloves). Their fist doesn't fit through that forearm gap easily, but it CAN get through. So the cover is still effective, but not AS effective as when your opponent is wearing gloves.

Either way it's not a viable defense for more than a moment. You'll get pushed off balance and banged around, and your opponent will find the gaps while you are covering. So don't stand there in a cover position- also bob, duck, weave, and generally move out of the line of fire and recompose.

By the way, we call it double pillar or "oh ****" cover.

You don't want to cover and duck too low because then you are vulnerable for a knee...
