Griffin has fought at 145 in the past...

I would love to see Aoki submit BJ penn- doubt it would happen but would still be awesome.

He's a MONSTER compared to Aoki.
lol its clear that you have no idea what you´re talking about. Griffin fought at 145 and the only reason he is at 155 is that there is no lower weightclass in the UFC.

I´m willing to bet Aoki walks around like 5-10 pounds heavier than Griffin.

    Nice find, that old article.

I suppose he´s not a big fan of cutting weight then. But his frame definately suits 145 , if he wanted to he could compete in that weight class in WEC.

I think elbows would be Aoki's downfall on the ground. Like a lot of fighters in the Japanese orgs, he relies on wrist control to initially stop ground 'n pound before breaking posture. Wrist control doesn't stop elbows.

He's too small for the UFC lightweights.

Some of these guys cut down from 185 or so like the legendary Gleison "30 lbs" Tibau.

Even with Aoki's good takedowns and awesome ground skills, I could easily see him getting smothered by one of the big cutters/wrestlers.

Plus, his striking is not the best. He would get picked apart on the feet by many of the UFC's lightweights.

Do we need to go through with this again?

When's the last time he fought at 145?
At 25 years old he's getting to the point where his metabolism could make it harder and harder to lose that kind of weight. Just because he can make that weight doesn't make him a 145er. I still say he's one of the strongest lightweights in the division. Hell half the UFC division could probably MAKE 145. That doesn't mean they should fight there.

And that half is not the one that contains the 'biggest' lightweights...

Gray Maynard, Gleion Tibau, Sean Sherk these are guys that could not practically fight at 145.
