I dropped the same weight on my face/throat

That was all I got out of it.
That said, here's a great article to prevent it from happening

Yeah back when I was like 17 or 18, a friend and I were spotting each other while doing the bench press. We did like 7 sets to muscle failure basically dropping the weight every set by 5 to 10 pounds. We were doing high reps. I had the weight around 100 on this last set. I got stuck pushing the weight up for a few seconds, (was up almost all the way) and my arms just gave out on me, and I dropped it on my nose. It surprised both of us. I thought I was going to push it up. Luckily it didn't drop on the bone and just dropped on the tip of my nose. Still bled pretty bad. Never did something like that again.

Why would setting the bars lower then the chest, but higher then the neck help?
If I'm going to slip, and drop the bar, it'll most likely be over my chest and setting the bars in that position won't do any good.I do not aspire to be great, or even good, I hope to suck a little less then last class.
