    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Is there a Korean govt recognized head of Hapkido?

I don't think Kukkiwon governs Hapkido too does it? Is there a govt recognized organization that issues Hapkido dan certifications because it looks to me its just lots of small organizations out there.

Kukkiwon is strictly TKD. It has nothing to do with hapkido.

There is no single organization in hapkido that is analogous to the kukkiwon. The largest formal organization is probably the Korean Hapkido Federation, but they comprise just a subset of all of the hapkido kwans and, afaik, are not formally affiliated with the Korean government.

Hapkido is a rather fragemented martial art. Most kwans are small, independent groups that have no formal ties to other kwans.

Well, that's weird... White Kimbo had posted a reply, and now it's gone.

meh, got trollshidoed because somehow i posted it without the last paragraph that stated that since HKD is so fragmented and without a solid curriculum, there really isn't any major org that is trying to rein it all in.

from what i understand all hapkido ranks from korea go thru the goverment.

infact several hapkido federations are under an audit review for certifying americans with ther black belt certificates and forging the goverment seal to avoid paying the tax.

There's a tax owed to the govt even when certifying Americans even if their is no official organization?? Is it only Korean masters and grandmasters who were ranked in Korea that have to pay taxes when they test/rank a student? They can't seriously tax someone not associated with Korea in anyway can they? Like how could they enforce it. Just out of curiousity is WTF certification also "taxed" and that's where part of the Kukkiwon fee goes?

I've always felt it confusing how fragmented the Hapkido schools are. It seems there is no two schools alike in ranking system or time or requirements for BB's. Not to mention so many variations with forms.

Variations with Hapkido forms? I didn't think HKD had forms.
