But I know academic Afrocentrists. I think they're the same stripe of postmodern wankers as epistemological feminists or literary criticists, but at least they're tolerable and they can provide actual scholastic research. If I had turned in a paper based on one book not even technically relevant to the subject to my profs at UT, they'd have flayed my ass alive. Seriously. He only quotes one much-outdated book, and has promised me links to the Am. Anthropological Assoc.'s journal, so that I can check out his source. I have a hard time believing that journal would subscribe to this, though they did have an embarassing incident where they pulled valid research because they didn't like the political and social implications of it (that indigenous Amazon peoples might actually benefit from contact with the modern world).
