BSDaemon, take it as a gift. IMO, I think you should go to the brown belt shredders school(if he is teaching) and say hello.

You have a link on the school you used to attend? Or belt shredders school?

    Here's the link:

Goodbye Karate - No BS MMA and Martial Arts

Belt slicing is on page 3.

Receiving this definitely made me feel honored. He basically told me that what I did in questioning the training methodologies was the right, and what his other student did to strip me of rank was wrong.

I'm moving to Boulder Colorado, no drawl, maybe a beard, concealed firearms: Definitely!

    BSDaemon,

I agree, but this was not a joke. I did do all the training and qualifications to achieve a brown belt level one below that. The old man just thought that the last 4 years of my BJJ & MT training I've been doing were worth more than the extra Kata that might have previously been necessary in the style to go from brown->black. This was his way of apologizing for the prior stripping of my rank done by the other student, and validating and approving of the choices and changes in training methodology I've made.

You can argue that this style of Karate is inferior, and that bar for brown & black belts is too low, and I'll probably agree with those arguments. It is what it is though: it isn't much.

Go ahead and investigate Richard Weeks if you really care to. Here is his youtube:

    http://www.youtube.com/user/MasterDickWeeks

    His myspace:

    http://www.myspace.com/masterweeks

These kata videos were from 1996 I believe:

    YouTube - Kata
    YouTube - Nihachen
    YouTube - Black Belt Kata

Just keep in mind that I personally left this stuff behind a long time ago. I haven't done a kata for half a decade.

I'll be strapping on a white belt to resume my BJJ training in Colorado. I'm not turning into Lyoto Machida because of this, and You'll not find this black belt as part of an inflated MA resume.

Yes, I know. Still, it goes to how you use it. We wouldn't be discussing this issue if it wasn't abused.

If it was a "I feel bad" I'd be proud he admitted it and move on. It would be placed away in a box and never spoken of IMO.

    Case by Case.

20/20. Still goes to how it is used or abused.

Are you saying that my sharing this here is abusing it? Bullshido helped write this story so I fell it's appropriate to convey it here. I'm sorry if this in any way is construed as self-aggrandizement, or if I strayed off the 'NO-BS' path by accepting it.

It was either that or break the old man's heart, and I just didn't have it in me.
