    Hell yeah! Hell no!

I just got an honorary black belt

I have not trained Karate in 4.5 years, but today my old Karate teacher who I have recently gotten back in touch with decided to award me a Black Belt.

His reasoning was that while I had not been doing Karate, I had kept on doing other martial arts. Also, as our old Karate club was falling apart, the brown belt I had got sliced up by another black belt who was angry at the things I had posted here. The old man did not agree with this and this was his way of righting the wrong.

I'm not sure how to feel about this, he told me not to turn it down, so I didn't. It's really weird to have the certificate and everything. I don't deserve it, but I've got it.

I was messing around with twitter and I find out that Shane Carwin is just a white belt, I might be getting smashed by him some once I move up to the mountains. It's been a surreal day, it's reminded me that these belts are just pieces of fabric that mean little in the grand scheme of things.

Its like that movie "Gladiator"...maybe, he wants to be known as the teacher who gave Karate back her true self.

He sounds like a nice, but lonely old man. Somebody "sliced up" your brown belt? Man, Mfers in TMA are wierd.

It's honourary: that's how you're supposed to feel about it.

IMO it sounds like he's making up for your brown belt getting sliced. Maybe teaching the guy who sliced it a lesson like "You don't think this guy deserves his brown? Well, now he's the same rank as you." I'm wildly speculating on that last part though.

I'd mentally accept it as it is. Honourary and a respectful gift.

Yes, there is nothing wrong with it be proud. The issue with Honorary BB's is the way people (Soke's Grand Master's Jason Brinn's) use them in advertising.
