    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Sikaran? Filipino Karate? Or Filipino Taekwondo?

Now, when I did Kali, I'd heard that Sikaran was another name for Pananjakman or generic FMA kicking techniques. I'd known that Shotokan had a presence on the Islands, and that it and Judo had influenced some systems of FMA.

    Then I saw this:

I would love to know more, if anyone has any input.

FMA Digest had an issue on Sikaran.

    Link:

The link is about half way down the page.

    Pretty good read.

Thanks for the link. The history is fascinating, and it does remind me quite a bit of the development of Taekwondo (minus the government interference, of course).

Sikaran is a word that means kicking, so using that term in reference to Filipino kicking techniques is not incorrect.

While I am no way an expert on Sikaran, from what I understand, the most commonly found lineage is that of Geronimo, but that is not the only lineage as the FMAdigest article states. There is also a line that traces itself through Mr. Louis Lagarejos. http://lagarejosassociates.com/lagarejossikaran.html

There may be other lines as well, its not a well-documented system.
