remember to relax when you are thrown but don't forget to "slap" the ground before you land. I am sure you will understand what I mean by the end of the night ;)

    Good luck :)

This is his first night. He's not going to be worried about fitting in. He's going to be worried about the long way down.

It's a blast. That's all I'm really gonna say since everybody else has said so much already. Your instructors should teach you all you need to know to stay safe, just remember that Ukemi.

    ??????

If by "Fitting in" you mean uchi-komi(drilling fits) then he indeed needs to be worried about it. Depending on the individual, he/she may only spend practice in the "beginners" class learning how to fall. He should be working his fits with EVERYONE he can get his hands on.

OSPF: he's talking about getting thrown by a tall guy, not throwing a tall guy.

just wondering in general, from your anecdotes, how pro or anti mma are most judo clubs ?

for example if there are 2 classes during the week and 1 randori during the weekend, assuming you find someone interested, are they okay with you both bringing thick sparring MMA gloves and try 'combat judo' or no-gi judo on the weekend ?
