UFC's World Extreme Cagefighting mixed martial arts promotion presents on Sunday Jan. 10, 2010 the lightweight title unification bout between reigning champion Jamie Varner and interim champion Ben Henderson.

If an explosive championship clash wasn’t enough, former featherweight titleholder Urijah Faber makes his return in his hometown of Sacramento to face top-ranked contender Raphael Assuncao.

Plus, featherweight Mike Brown returns to the cage to take on the powerful Anthony Morrison, while lightweights Dave Jansen and Kamal Shalorus lock horns in an intriguing 155-pound battle. In addition, Mackens Semerzier looks to continue his rise in the featherweight division when he battles the gritty Deividas Taurosevicius.

Faber & Brown were impressive, but why is Faber getting a shot at Aldo after one win? Yeah, I know it's marketing & good business, but it's not deserved.

Shalorus is a big threat, too. I hope he works on his striking, because no one's going to be able to take that guy down.

normally not a fan of wikipedia vandalism, but it under match on one of the fighters pages, someone wrote "Wanted to fight, got grappled." Hilarious.

Yeah, I thought it was kind of a bitch move for Varner to be so respectful of Henderson before and during the fight, but then to say something like "He came to grapple, I came to fight!" afterward. So when did the grappling aspect of mixed martial arts move away from the purview of "fighting?"

At first I thought "Oh well, Varner's a former Golden Gloves boxer, he's just butthurt because he has some kinda complex where he thinks punching is the only manly way to fight." But then I saw his record on Wikipedia and noticed that he has quite a few submission wins, so I guess it really boils down to Varner being a sore-ass loser.

It was a great card all around. I'm impressed with Shalarus; he needs to refine his strikikng but if he does he has the potential to be a beast. Hominick's arm bar was pretty slick too- I thought he was just going to get pounded out. I was happy to see Brown looking good, and I was thrilled that both Faber and Henderson were able to finish their opponents.
Tonight set the stage for some great match ups; Faber vs. Aldo has the makings of a classic and I can't wait to see the Cerrone-Henderson rematch. Of course, we get to see Bowles defend his title as well as the return of Torres before that. It's a great time to be a fight fan.

Varner looked like ****. Shalarus better step up his stand up defence and polish his boxing or hes gonna be getting ktfo sometime soon. Would like to see more ground work from the dude and must admit he was stuffing homies takedowns with ease.
