I've done static training. It takes a lot more out of you than standard reps (done properly). That's why I stopped when I started MA. I could make the lifting as infrequent as I like...but not so with MA.
Now for someone who really despises lifting, and doesn't undertake any other physically demanding activities, I think it's a fine protocol. Only thing it lacks is the flexibility enhancement of full range of motion reps.
