It should be noted that while Somluck won in International Boxing, most Thai boys start their boxing careers in Muay Thai.

Maybe 20 years ago when nobody outside of the Thais knew what a leg kick was and Van Damme was in his 20s, but still probably not. Unless you're kidding, then well put.

It's a midlife crisis.
However, looking at Somluck's Olympic record, looks like he peaked around fifteen years ago. And he's very popular in Thailand, and an actor now as well. Maybe they figure that he can't murder VD, but VD still looks legit if he loses to an Olympic gold medalist.

I can't decide if this is more or less sad then professional athletes transitioning to martial arts. Perhaps Fox can resurrect Celebrity Boxing, under an MMA ruleset.

Van Damme wins this via exhibition match.

I was under the impression that he was a Seidokan Karateka.
Either way should be as entertaining as another 80's MA Movie Star (sic) Kathy Long. She's 44 and is supposed to be fighting in MMA.
And according to Sherdog, she won.
I feel like you eye-bawlin' me, dawg!

There are only three choices for celebrities past their prime: competition fighting, the born again christian circuit, or porn. This may be the best option for JCVD.
BTW, was that a Stallone impersonation or did JCVD just have a stroke? I really can't tell without speakers on.
