I get the feeling that he wasn't thinking about that. I imagine his thought process was something along the lines of:

"Haha, I'm totally gonna win this fight. You know what'd be really funny? If I just clocked that guy as the fight starts. Haha, fastest knockout ever. Oh, ****, he wants to touch gloves... Haha, I'm totally gonna get this guy, I got this guy..."

That actually happened in a karate tournie in SLC yeas ago with two browns. Ref sez bow to me, bow to each other, and then sez HAJIME! with the usual downward hand strike in the air between them. But this time the ref never got to hajime because as they bowed to each other one guy front kicked the other guy in the face! Fucking for real, bloodied his mouth good, might have broken a tooth or two. The ref and the corner judges all asked the guy (who happened to be Hawaiian) if he wanted to win by default and the guy said no, I want to fight (probably more like "I like **** up that fucking haole ************!"). So they let them fight and there were no calls by the judges for "excessive contact" or "lack of control" - they just sat back and let the Hawaiian guy beat the hell out of the idiot.

And to the OP, yes, the guy (never would call him a man) is a total fucktard scum. Violates every concept of good sportsmanship and shits on ma honor. That he technically was within the rule set doesn't mean ****; he's the dick cheney of martial arts.

Good. MMA isn't tea with the Queen. MMA should be a FIGHT from bell to bell, not mandancing.

Touching gloves during a round is a stupid idea, anyway. You're in a fight. You're not standing outside of the cage/ring. You're not at your corner between rounds listening to your coach. You're not being separated by the referee. Anything which helps kill an idiotic mandance behavior should not only be legal, but encouraged.

Do you want a fighter to show respect, but before and after the fight and in between rounds isn't enough time allotted for you? What next? When do you get to the point where you want a fighter to let the opponent get up after a knockdown? Maybe you also could add codify etiquette of giving a 10 count to see if he regains his wits, then restart the beatings?

Go take up a different sport if you want your own version of etiquette rules civility to creep into THE MIDDLE of a round. Touching gloves DURING a round isn't about safety, or keeping the action going. It's just stupid. "I say old boy, care to have a bit of a go? Yes, please, with cream and sugar." Mandancing.

Perhaps you should take up Aikido? I hear there's a lot of mandancing and etiquette in it somewhere.
