Wiki: A straw man argument is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position.[1] To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by substituting a superficially similar proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position

Maybe if you read the following outloud, over and over again, it can sink into your thick skull:

Now take a deep breath, and maybe a hit of acid and a bottle of scotch, and keep repeating the above. Get back to us in about 14 hours or so and let us know if you've begun to think.

You seem to have a very hard time differentiating between sport and a real life fight Hesperus. I think if you started competing you would quickly change your mind.

Maybe ten hits of acid? Sodium pentathol? Electro shock treatment? It's like talking to a fucking Mormon missionary or a born again Jehovah's Witness!

Or maybe we could 'friendly" spar and I'll put a horseshoe in my glove, 'cause after all, it will be a "fight." And all fair in fighting, right?

If it's not a fight, why are they called fighters?

And why isn't the title "I guess this is one way to win a sporting event"?

Simply because we casually refer to boxing, wrestling, or other martial arts as "fights" and their practitioners "fighters" doesn't mean what they are doing is actually fighting.

Honestly, if someone actually has to explain this to you here, on this particular sort of message board, I wonder if I've been giving you too much benefit of the doubt.

There's a reason the UFC slogan is "As real as it gets." It's not a real fight, it's a sporting contest using combative techniques. Are you really going to make me spell it out for you?

You know it's not a real fight. I know you know it's not a real fight. Why are we having this discussion?

Congratulations, you've proven that people use the word "fight" to describe ring sporting matches. Oh wait, no one here has actually argued the opposite of this.

    Strawman.
