To Navy Federal users

I apologize if this is old news or a repost.

For some reason Navey Federal has made a deal with Visa that our cards(even though its a debit sharecheck card) wont work as debit at stores. You must run it as credit. Which makes things difficult at certain gas stations. They will work at ATMs though. I did find out that Navy Fed, has many co-op ATMs. All Golden 1 ATMs are compatible with Navy Federal cards. Which means to extra charge. If you live in an area where there is not a Navy Federal close to you and would like a list of the Co-Op ATMs you can just call 1-800-842-6328.

i never knew the reason why its that way. but ive always had to run my debit as credit when making purchases on base or elsewhere. although our deposits dont happen as fast as say USAA bank, Navy Fed still rocks

The lady at Navy fed, told me its so the cards work better with less problems. But that just seems like avoiding the problem instead of solving it.

My wife used to work for Navy Federal and helped open a new branch in Fayetteville last year. The "cards work better" line was what they were told to tell customers. I don't use my NF account, now that my wife now works for another bank I don't see a reason for keeping it. I still say USAA is the way to go.

I went with Navy Fed. They really throw the hard sell at you at Great Lakes. All in all, I didn't really have any problems with Navy Fed the whole six years I was in. I dropped them when I got out two years ago. Didn't seem prudent to stay with a bank with no branches anywhere near Oklahoma.
