Psst, your ignorance is showing... again. But I can't fault you for that as it's in your nature and thus how you are. Here's a video of the French 2007 65kg Championships. Wherein wrestling is all over the place.

Incidentally, this is also my cousin. (Mothers side, once or twice removed.)

As for the bareback thing, a lot of Sanda places I've seen do that.

    Sirc, you're a dick, but here's what I meant:

1:05, 4:40, 5:02 seemed to have a more extended clinch than I normally see in San Da. Part of this is that in 1:05, they have dropped a knee and have therefore started the ground-clock instead of the clinch-clock. Another part of this is probably just that these Russians seem faster in general than lots of other San Da I've seen (for instance, some on the Baltimore Koushu). I think that their explosiveness and speed, combined with them being shirtless and the addition of ground time, made it appear more like wrestling to me than other San Da throws and clinching that I've seen.

    Nice vid.

I believe on main coach has been Andrei Pokylov (I have to check the spelling), who is also a sambo coach. I have seen the russian team up close here in the US at the 2004 USKBA San Da event where we also held our sambo event. They kicked ass. I do have video somewhere. I will see if I can dig it up.
Is there a lot of cross-pollination with combat sambo folks?

It has been used at at least 2 events this year. Liu's and one other.

BTW: The "ringer" we talked about was Jaral Bowman.

just to clarify, baltimore koushou is not sanda rules, it is lei tai rules (different rule set, although similar in some ways.)

many sanda fighters will compete in both sanda and lei tai, so i can see why you would be confused about that.

no-kurtka + thumb-locked 12 oz gloves = a whole new world. I know Steve's guys practice like this, but I suspect many SAMBO players do not.
