Attn: War Wheel - Russain San Da

War Wheel and I were discussing san da, and I mentioned this video to him where the russian's added limited G&P to the rules. My assumption was to make the throws more practical in that the thrower has to demonstrate some kind of control...not just throw for points with disregard of where his opponent ends up.

In any event, it is an interesting watch.

Good ****, but why was there some fucking Aikido being demonstrated there?

Also, I'm not quite sure what the limited GnP adds to the game. I'd say it doesn't really add anything.

Yeah, the demos were out of place.

Regarding the G&P, i don't understand russian enough to know what was said. But, I think it actually adds to the game in that many san da/san shou guys (like many judo guys too), throw with little regard for where they end up after the takedown...as long as their opponent hits the mat first and they get the points. We have all seen throws in which the attacker ends up in poor position, but still gets points.

I agree that the G&P is not a revolutionary addition, but I do think it makes people look at their takedown a bit differently in that they must continue and establish some kind of control after a throw.

That's an awesome rule change, hope it becomes the norm in San Da. It's basically the best way you can improve San Da without compromising the art and making it a MT clone.

This is going to help with San Da fighters transitioning to MMA, their biggest weakness currently is what steve pointed out in the post above.

This was tourney between the best 5 sanda fighters from Russia VS Belarus

Russia won 4-1, the Belarussian that won was the one who was on the scales.

There were 5 fights. 5 rounds, 2 minutes each, and scored by 5 judges, if a decision isnt made then a 6th round is announced, and if both fighters are equal then they get weighted and the lighter one wins

GnP isnt more than 10 seconds, and if the opponent isnt fighting back then its 5 seconds.

The other talk was about the fighters themselves, that the audience loved the fights and wushu sanda hopes to make the sport popular and available for everyone.

I was a little shocked. Sure, he changed sides quickly, but I guess even a dog can realize it has more in common with the wolf than with the shephard.

I give him the names of some BJJ schools in the area, and we go our separate ways.
