If its a good school, then the Shooto program might be superior to only taking BJJ. There are some notable Shooto fighters from the USA.
Eric Paulson is a seriously talented martial artist and is a coach for Brock Lesnar(current UFC champion). He also developed his own system, Combat Submission Wrestling(CSW) that draws heavily from Shooto.
Ron Balicki is another great fighter. He is a full instructor in a number of arts under Dan Inosanto and was also a Shooto fighter.
Also, Shooto predates the UFC(MMA) by about 7 years. So really when a school says it teaches MMA, it means "I teach Shooto". ;)

oh right now i get it, i confused "shooto" with "combat submission wrestling", that is what the school is teaching. so it's csw vs bjj, not shooto

CSW gyms are a good choice for training. let us know how you like it.

"that guy" is Satoru Sayama - aka Tiger Mask. The founder of Shooto and one of the main bodies who pushed MMA into the spotlight.

Can anyone understand what the instructor was shouting at his students?
Hopefully it was something like "Keep your hands up!" *smack with stick*
"Your base is too small!" *tiip kick*

CSW uses a lot of BJJ techniques. If you have to choose between pure BJJ and CSW, and the instructors are both good, I would probably choose CSW.
Its not that CSW is "superior", its just that it will also teach you stand-up techniques as well.
Also, what are your objectives? You want to learn to defend yourself on the street or do you want to be an MMA fighter? They are two completely different things...

My background is through a Shooto-affiliated club.

I guess I'm not too funny today.

Yep, the flashing pink letters are correct.

Go read up on a poster named Hannibal and get your trolling correct.
    Actually no.

I clarified the Pro/Amatuer classes. I also made it clear that there is not a style called "Shooto". Just like there is not a "UFC" style.

No trolling, no copying, just honest clarification.

    Cheers
