    Great KO.

That's what happens when you stand around and wait for the other guy to make the first move, you have to be aggressive to win fights.

I saw a KO like that at a tae kwon do tournament (the blackbelts were allowed to do head kicks, us little non-blackbelts were not). It was a grandmaster something something tournament held in a highschool gym.

One problem with Tae Kwon Do training (at least that I've seen) is that the lack of punching leads to laxity in keeping one's hands up, which in turn leads to the occasional devastating tornado kick knockout of doom.

My korean speaking friend watched this and translated that the KO'd opponent is from a muay thai gym. Im not saying muay thai sucks, whatever, Im just mentioning the translation.

And the guy was well aware a kick was on the way before it hit him, his guard was up and he was moving back.

Yeah,he seems to be well on his guard. He was moving backwards tryin to avoid whatever when he got knocked silly.

This seems to be one of those situations where TKD is shown to occasionally useful (low percentage kick??) but not necessarily practical?? Most ppl won't be able to do that kick in a fight or that well, and most ppl also manage to move out of the way or keep guarded well enough.

All that said however?? Damn!!! nice K.O lol. Thats the kinda kick you can tell stories about for yrs lol.

of course most people can't do that, most people don't train TKD for years. And there are many videos of TKD 'flashy' kicks getting brutal KO's on other Taekwondoin and various fighters as well. And there are videos of good Taekwondoin beating bad muay thai fighters, and good muay thai fighters beating bad Taekwondoin.

The practicality and effectiveness is obvious. Cung lee effectively used back-hook kick in mma, face roundhouse KO's are common. I saw a fighter who trained with GSP KO his opponent with a back kick to the body. Serkan yilmaz gave masato kobayashi, one of the most succesful k-1 fighters ever one hell of a run for his money.

The techniques are commonplace in MMA, and effective in many situations. Nobody does taekwondo techniques better than taekwondo fighters, and Taekwondo techniques are succesful in MMA.

Not many high-level taekwondo fighter go into MMA, but the few decent ones that have have done decently well.
