An old coach at university said that all the tournaments (including the one I was participating in) were bareknuckle because "when we use gloves we get more concussions, without them we get more cuts. I'm more concerned for your brains than your looks."
It's funny because we weren't allowed to punch in the head anyways, so there wasn't really any difference. -

These are what I noticed with gloves or no gloves
for boxing gloves, the old school ones, you could still throw a good solid shot, and more fist was felt
new school boxing gloves is all impact of gloves only - however are good for training chin na technique, as you have to grip with gloves only - also it is harder for you to mess up your knuckles
mma or bruce lee enter the dragon gloves, str8 no injuries to hands, and no witholding much technique
bareknuckle, you can cut your hand, but there are more options such as aim of each knuckle, claw, hook, mantis techniques - makes throws and locks much easier -
