    Hell yeah! Hell no!
I really don't care if judo has a ground game anymore since I can always do the BJJ. But banning leg grabs? WTF? They're banning judo from judo comps.

    Do as you wish...

...after all I am not your Coach. However, if I were, and you didn't take my wise advise, then you got thrown for Ippon with one second left, a second that wouldn't be there had you attacked the turtle...

Yes, it did happen, but that wasn't one of my players either.

First, this is key, odds are attacking the turtle is NOT going to get a score. In most cases you will be stood up before you can pin or finish.

If we accept the above as fact, and stats say it is, it dictates our actions in the match.

    curious:
Dunno how matches get reffed over in the usa, but wouldnt it also be dodgey for the guy who turtles, as in getting penalty for being passive?
last week i read a article written by the coach of dennis van der geest about the new rules.
nobody here seems to like em much.

Passivity and negative judo penalties apparently only apply when you are on two feet.

Has its upsides, though - I won a match last weekend because when the guy threw me for yuko he wasn't expecting me to attack *him* from the bottom of turtle. But that's a whole 'nother can of worms, and should probably be taken to a new thread if you want to discuss that.

    meh.
i vividly remember the bjj dudes going to a ne-waza tournement here, i couldnt make it but warned em things would be very different.
they had a huge WTF experience when it came to the rules.

esp with judo it seems hard to make the rules in sucha way that yu keep the excitement of the standup game with the throws without dickheads homing their tactics on it.
    (leggrabs example)

It is my oppinion that the new judo rules are ridiculous. What was wrong with the way it use to be? Couldn't handle the wrestlers or BJJ fighters? I find it pathetic that wrestling and BJJ allow more JUDO THROWS than judo!!

BJJ might make you a better ground fighter, but Judo will make you a better dancer. Join us... or die

Yeah, those wrestlers and BJJ players were totally dominating the Olympics and Worlds before this... those poor Judoka never got a look in!

I don't like this rule either (hardly anyone at the grassroots does), but get a fucking clue. This comes from the top, the IJF, the head honchos. Whatever their reasons, you can be sure they couldn't give a **** if collegiate champions or sandbagging purple belts are dominating some bumb-**** regional events.
