    Calling all Korean speakers

Need some help here guys. I'm looking for someone to write something in Korean for me. It's my girlfriend's middle name (she's adopted, it's a long story).

I'm not sure how you would spell it but phonetically it's Nan Sook. Apparently it means Yellow Daffodil.

    Thanks guys.

    난숙

should be the hangul spelling. As for hanja character I need to do some digging.

Edit: Actually on second thought. Hanja character is going to be beyond my level to accurately search out. Try PMing DerAusAusLander108.

Does your girlfriend know how to make the many side dishes that grace a Korean meal? I loooove Korean food! The barbecue is awesome but those side dishes are what really do it for me. Kimchee the spinach, the sprouts fish cake oh man!

The women do tend to be very pretty also. Korean girls seem to be nice and spunky, they definitely are not all wallflowers, at least the ones I have met.

She was an orphan and adopted by a German family as a baby so she thinks of herself as German rather than Korean and knows nothing of Korean culture.

Thanks for the translation, could you tell me the difference between Hangul and Hanja?

Thanks for the translation, could you tell me the difference between Hangul and Hanja?
Simplest way to explain it is that Hanja is Chinese characters Koreans used for Korean pronunciation prior to development of Korean Alphabet (Hangul) and Hangul is the Korean Alphabet developed to replace Hanja. For very long time, both Hanja and Hangul was used heavily (even upon till late 80s). Now, it's pretty much all Hangul and very little Hanja.

    See wiki below for details.

    Hangul
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hangul

    Hanja
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanja

So in case of my translation for 난숙, that's the Korean Alphabet translation of Hangul. Hanja would be her name in Chinese characters being used for Korean pronunciation. Typically most Koreans have two names, one in Hangul and one in Hanja to define what your name means. For example, my name is 성호 and its Hanja characters in simple translation means deep and growth.

So when you said her name means Yellow Daffodil, that's the Hanja you need to look for. Because her name 난숙 (if I guessed the spelling correrctly) literally means overripe, fully mature in Hangul definition.

Catch is with Hanja is that there are variation on how you pronounce it vs. writing the character. Due to that fact, Hanja is lot more difficult to guess than Hangul. Honestly though, your best bet for finding out Hanja is looking for some forum that focus on Korean language or contact a collegiate level professor who teaches Korean (older the better, younger professors probably wouldn't know too much Hanja).

My teacher's here this weekend, maybe he'll know.

Nansuk doesn't match up with any Hanja I know for Yellow Daffodil. Hwang is the yellow I know.
