Nice opening thread, unlike most allegations, this one seems to have some meat to it. So Be Like Water will you share the allegations concerning Yip Chun and specify who is saying such things.Originally posted by BeLikeWater
This is somewhat ironic as many question Yip Chun's claim of being qualified to teach the style... -

I do not know specifically but there are definitely stories floating around about such things, some from his own students as well.
-one version is that he never wanted to learn wing chun and only did after Yip Man passed away from other senior students
-another version is that he did learn from Yip Man but when he (Yip Chun) was really old already and that he never spent much time learning the system the way others had
-others just say his wing chun just isn't very good.
I personally do not know how true any of these are and I can't give you my opinion of the last point b/c it would only be based on a few articles, books and perhaps short clip. Not enough to judge.
Regardless of whether or not you are from his lineage what is your take on this? -

Well since my training came from a bastard offshoot of the Moy Yot (sp?) line I don't have an agenda here. I read Ip Chun's book and thought it was good stuff but since this is the first I've heard of the allegation I don't have enough information to judge the allegation but I start as a skeptic. If I knew the names of the wing chun instructors making such statements I might be able to judge their crediability. For example I would not believe William Chueng because his previous claims concerning the creation of "Traditional Wing Chun" (The real teachnique was only passed down by Yip Man to moi, everyone else is doing it wrong)
