Get your PhD in Martial Arts Studies with the EIUSAMAA!

Get your PhD in Martial Arts Studies with the EIUSAMAA!

That's right, the EIUSAMAA, which lacks a proper website (links demonstrate a defunct one existed as an AOL member page) but, lucky for you, still possesses an (800) number and an AOL e-mail account, is willing to award YOU – yes, you – with a PhD (“earned” or honorary) from its Department of Martial Art at its College of Advanced Studies.

Just contact Soke John C. Kanzler, Director 1(800)456-EUSA eusaimaa@aol.com and he'll present you with your very own one of these:

Or maybe you'd like a black belt in anything... or maybe two things at once?

    http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...c3a0365f9a.jpg

    Or the title of Grandmaster?

    http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...343581d319.jpg

Or maybe you just want someone to notice you founded your own style?

Or perhaps an induction into the Black Belt hall of fame, featuring a black tie dinner event?

Just googling this place and its awards turns up a who's who list of bullshidokas and McDojos (and admittedly, several people who seem to be legitimate apart from the guilt of indiscriminate resume padding.

Locations for this organization are in FL and Pitsburgh, PA

    From judoforum:

The following is an extract from the Florida Penal Code:

817.566 Misrepresentation of association with, or academic standing at, postsecondary educational institution.--Any person who, with intent to defraud, misrepresents his or her association with, or academic standing or other progress at, any postsecondary educational institution by falsely making, altering, simulating, or forging a document, degree, certificate, diploma, award, record, letter, transcript, form, or other paper; or any person who causes or procures such a misrepresentation; or any person who utters and publishes or otherwise represents such a document, degree, certificate, diploma, award, record, letter, transcript, form, or other paper as true, knowing it to be false, is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083. Individuals who present a religious academic degree from any college, university, seminary, or institution which is not licensed by the Commission for Independent Education or which is not exempt pursuant to the provisions of s. 1005.06 shall disclose the religious nature of the degree upon presentation. Their headquarters is:

    1970 Osceola Parkway Suite #273
    Kissimmee, Florida 34743

However, membership services (and probably their PhD issuing services, provided PA law is less strict) receive mail at:

    PO Box 9642
    Pittsburgh, PA 15226

    Again, their contact info is:

You mean I could have skipped those six years of grad school? What a pisser...

You might consider forwarding this to the website "quack watch" as they have been instrumental in assisting the shutdown of diploma mills in the past.

    Cheers,

FYI that Florida statute, to my knowledge, has never been used. I did a story about a firefighter getting a fake degree from a diploma mill. Prosecutors said there's little chance anyone would ever be charged under it.

So, as I am new to the whole "breaking"/investigating thing, where do we start?

Please forgive my newbness when it comes to starting investigations, but I am not sure what we need to do to get this thing rolling.

^ I'm assuming the same thing Bullshido did with Ashida Kim: Try to be somewhat neutral until they prove beyond a doubt that they're a diploma mill. Contact them about getting sokeship in a completely idiotic martial art that any non-diploma mill would pick up on and refuse to grant a certificate to (Maori Fencing is my idea, because anyone who has even watched Spike TV recently can tell you that the Maori didn't use steel weapons). When they ask for payment, tell them they've been nailed and then link to the thread. Good idea or no?

That does but doesn't mean anything though.

I'm willing to bet it rarely gets used simply because most employers who catch employees with fake degrees are content with simply releasing them. If I caught someone with a fake degree, that's all I'd do. I wouldn't attempt to press charges. Come to think of it, the Dean of students at Harvard was recently fired because she lied on her resume about where her diploma was from. Harvard didn't attempt to press charges.

Also, police, at least in Philly, tend to ignore small infractions. In Philly, people rarely get in trouble for weed unless they have enough for possession with intent to distribute. Given the fact that in most places firefighters can be hired straight out of high school, making his degree pretty much unnecessary in the first place, the police probably didn't even bother pressing charges against him. However, it might have been different if he was teaching a class at a University with the same fake degree.

And, as I posted in the Creotology thread, I recently saw a news special in Nashville about people in jail for possession of diploma mill certificates.
