That's true but a man 6'2" tall would most likely wear a larger shoe size than a size 9.

The main factor here is that there's a huge difference in the height of these two men.
KFG= 6 feet 1.5 inches
John Hardy = 5'7-5'8"

BIG DIFFERENCE.

I only used the clothes and the shoes to support the fact that John Hardy was shorter than KFG.

6-7 inches is a lot to be "off by" in the initial height estimate of John Hardy even with "bone shrinkage."

Surely the coroner must've been more accurate in his height estimate of John Hardy than be off by 6-7 inches. The skeletal remains were found intact in a sleeping bag under a bridge after having been there for about a year.

If we didn't have reasonably strong evidence of facial similarity I would be inclined to simply agree, but we have tension between the height info and the facial analysis. It's possible that the estimated height for John Doe is just botched/wrong.

As far as the shoe goes, it's excellent for establishing a timeframe, but not great for establishing height. If you had only 1 shoe, would you really care if it "fit"?

Also, in your analysis, did you measure to the top of the head/hair? That would add unnecessary error to your measurement of KFG's height.

Just stuff to look at. I'm not trying to force an ID here, just try to sort out the conflicting evidence.

My only problem with the height estimate was the fact that it came off an old VHS video. Distortion and position make it darn near impossible to get a reliable measurement.

I have to admit that when I first saw the John Doe/John Hardy comparison I said "Hooray! KFG's been found and he lived!"...until I saw the difference in height. That's been bothering the heck out of me.

I wish I could overlook the difference in height but I can't.

exostosis looks as though it may be common in the homeless living in cold weather environments?

I did not include KFG's hair/afro in my measurements. Even without doing the calculations, I could tell that KFG is/was much taller than WD. It's obvious throughout the video even though it's a VHS.

Guess we need some good ole' fashioned DNA testing to be sure.

I want to believe it's him but I don't think so.

PS. forget the shoe, you're focusing on the wrong thing. Look at the big picture.

so, if the afro adds an inch and a half, then that puts KFG at 5'11 to 6, max. we are also relying on WDs height to be reported correctly, and the coroner to have reported john doe's height correctly.

inconclusive, but i really wont be surprised if john doe is KFG
