Anybody else do this kind of work who wants to examine Rudy's analysis? I could take a stab at it, but it's not my area.

I have no skills in facial recognition aside from the brief work I did with Pelco and their face software recognition whatever whatever, but as someone who spent a lifetime ago doing sculpting and art I can safely say that this is pretty close but not quite. The drawing is total frontal view and the screencap is about 10* offset. That changes EVERYTHING. Look at facebook, those facebook/myspace shots are taken at around 15* and it makes any uggo look amazing.

Nice work Rudy, and you're on to something, but I don't really think it's anything substantial.

I agree, both the drawing and the photo are offset. it is pretty close, though. The ocular process shape and the ear to jaw line however can compensate for the degree difference. I'm also looking at the horiz. lines across the face, which would remain closer to truth despite the offset. Its enough , IMO, to have professionals do a more thorough study. I believe this can open the door. There are many match points that can be studied further by forensic specialists. What I don't have, of course, is the actual clay model from the skull. THAT would be much more conclusive as a comparison. The fact that both subjects had what is believed to be the same injury on the same side is circumstantial, but enough to be pursued by the authorities.

I trust my eye over the lines. The lines give me a guideline. To me, The facial components are too similar to ignore.

It's also important to remember that these are two people know to have been present in the same narrow geographical area. A smaller population (than say the whole world) should widen the tolerance for error, although I'd have to look into how that would be quantified (ie, I don't know what kind of significance tests are the norm for this sort of work)

Just to illustrate this, if the two images were taken from a small town containing 10 children, and 1 adult male, the small errors we're seeing would be very much within tolerance.

Area, economic condition, injury, body type. It would be a heck of a coincidence that these two guys would both be homeless guys with the same jaw injury, round about the same time.

Is that injury on the correct side? None of the insiders we talked to mentioned anything about a 180 flip on the YT video, so I think we can assume it's reflective of right-left

That's an interesting question. You wonder which side of the jaw actually might have broken. The side of impact or the side of surface. It might have had a croquet effect.
