It appears his name is Bobby Joe Blythe. He has this video posted on his You Tube channel.

Bobby Joe Blythe on the subject of what he expects of his blackbelts:
http://www.youtube.com/user/bobbyjoeblythe007Demand and show respect to all and how you treat others, you should be treated the same. Wear your Black Belt with pride and dignity.
I hope there are some serious repercussions. -

From his youtube channel he looks like he's well known locally
he's a crop sprayer and as well as a MA instructor
I was thinking, there's a lot of press coverage about this story http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/...fight_clu.html
I would check out the latest news for journalists nearby (but not in the same town) who had covered this story and send a link to them / phone them.
They can then run it as a follow up to the existing story, which is "hot" right now.
In fact this could run as a national story and the national press might be interested in it.
From a journalist's POV videos like this are news gold dust. -

On an interesting tangent
One of the instructor's long term students who went on to become his senior assistant is a Mr Robert Zingg
From Mr Zingg's web page...
Mr. Zingg then began his study of Full-Contact Karate in the form of Okinawan Tozan-ryu Shindokan Karate under Sgt. Bobby Joe Blythe, 6th Degree Black Belt. Shindokan is a rugged form of full-contact karate from Okinawa that utilizes full power kicking, punching and striking techniques during sparring matches and training sessions.
At the age of 14 through 17 Mr. Zingg routinely fought daily matches against the other students in the class who were US Marines, more than twice his size. Mr. Zingg trained 7 days a week, 6 hours per day for 17 months to earn his 1st Degree Black Belt in Tozan-ryu Shindokan.
In September of 1972 he was promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt and was the youngest student to ever earn a Black Belt in Shindokan at that time. His Shodan test lasted 12 grueling hours without a break.
From 1972 through 1984 Mr. Zingg was the Senior Assistant Instructor at Shihan Blythe's school in Dumfries, Virginia and became the school manager in 1979.
Currently, Mr. Zingg is a Special Education Teacher, where he specializes in teens with emotional and behavioral disorders, as well as the mildly mentally impaired.

It would be interesting to know if Mr Zingg was present when this happened, or if not, how he feels about his former master having seen this.
eta
the footage was shot on 13th December 1984, so it looks like it would probably have been just after Mr Zingg left the dojo.Last edited by littleoldme; 8/14/2009 4:16am at .
