    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Thank-You Bullshido

    I was just reading that train wreck of an WC thread and I swear if anyone was in the room with me, they would have seen a lightbulb over my head.

    I think I finally got it.

    I took Gung-Fu as a teen, then a smattering of JKD, and ?ing ?ung as an adult. Up until a short time ago (just prior to finding this board) I lamented the fact that I could not train ?ing ?ung where I live.

    Even though I wanted to train in wing chung, at the back of my mind, I was always dissapointed when I would see tournaments, ring matches etc, that the actual fighting didn't "look" like kung-fu. It all actually looked the same. IIF called it "bad kickboxing" in the other thread.

    My lightbulb moment is this (and what everyone else here seems to already understand) is that when people practice kicboxing, MT, BJJ, Judo, it is still recognizable as that style when they actually fight. The punches, kicks, throws and other techniques are maintained. All the traps, and multi-target hits of the WC training and demos seem to dissapear once the partner resists. The WC you train (as well as some other styles, to be fair) seems to fall apart once the opponent refuses to only throw one punch or kick at a time.

    Hooray!

    Keep lurking the CMA and JMA forums, there's good traditional stuff. One just has to develop an eye for it.

    I basically didn't expect an enthusiastic response, but where else could I express this epiphany of sorts. I could tell my wife, but she would just get that glazed over disinterested look like she gets when I suggest we have sex.

    As far as what now. I'm torn between a Kickboxing gym, and a Gracie Barra BJJ school. There is some Kyokushin Karate about 1/2 hour or so away that may be an option as well. I've been out of the MA for a long time so it's a little daunting to jump back in.

    Oh don't mind him, he's a noob too. Honestly after all the Bruce Downeys and ing un threads that I've read, I'm very happy you had a lightbulb moment. Some people just choose to live in the dark.

    Hope you find something you can train in with your new situation. Welcome to Bullshido!

    Got Foom? Guess not anymore

    Seriously, congrats and enjoy all the punching, choking and throwing your little ex-chunner heart desires.
    Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
    and remember what peace there may be in silence.
    As far as possible, without surrender,
    be on good terms with all persons.
    Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
    and listen to others,
    even to the dull and ignorant;
    they too have their story.

    You're fucking this up by being so even-handed and gracious.

    The sensible thing to do here is to start spazzing out about center-line theory and the grappling hidden in si lum tao.
