Questions about wing chun

I am thinking about taking wing chun and i have some questions. Why do a lot of people on bullshido feel that wing chun is not a good style to take? Are they right? It looks like if it is taught right that it can be effective in a fight.

What are some of the pro's and con's of wing chun?

This is the school that im looking at studying at: http://www.shaolinkungfucenter.com/main.html Does it look like a good school to you all?

Any help you all can give would be great.

As an ex Chunner i would recommend you avoid it.

It depends what you want from your training really if its just a bit of fun this could be fine but if you wanna learn how to fight find something with decent alive training.
(Generally Bjj, Judo, MMA, Kyokuskin, Sambo are your safe bets for decent training)

Is the style that bad? I am looking to use it for training for real fighting. I talked with the teacher and he has told me that he has used his training in a number of situations. Weather this is trure or not im not sure. He seems like a straight up kind of guys though.

I have also been looking at goju ryu karate. Wing chun and goju ryu are my 2 main choices cause those are the 2 schools in my area that offer class times that i can take. Im am striving to decide which one to take.

If your only options are those two, go for the school that does the most intense physical training. At least you'll get in shape.

Well ask them if they spar and if so how often?

Also i would'nt hurt to try a class just to see what the training is like if its all forms and compliant drills i would Avoid!

I trained in Wing Tsun (various lineages) for a good six years and although i enjoyed the training i pretty much feel like i wasted my time and i would have been better served to join a BJJ or MMA school.

In my opinion if sparring and real Alive training was introduced to every Wing Chun/Tsun school the number of students training would decrease tenfold overnight.
This is because people want to beleive there is an easy way to learn to fight, they dont want to be punched in the face and train to the point of exhaustion but it's the ONLY way.

Think about that when choosing a school.

greed, personal interest, good faith ignorance, etc.

It's not like they all lie. Most just don't know better.
