The houston stickfighting association, which started off (to my knowledge) as a small-ish group experimenting across a variety of weapons, has really been doing a lot to build an FMA community in the Houston area. This is pretty goddamn exciting to me, as previously, Texas gatherings to kick each others asses have been somewhat limited to basically
WEKAF(which is quite small in these parts, and embodies an ethos about stickfighting I don't identify with)
The austin martial arts Festival/The Edge, which has....implementation problems.
And the Texas Kali Anniversary fight day, which of course is closed to our own group.
Since Eric Knauss has moved back to Texas, he's apparently become one of the advisors to this group, and the videos of their most recent quarterly Gathering were very impressive to me, not the least of which was Eric himself. They've also been hosting seminars and bringing together 4ish schools from across Houston. If we can make this a Texas thing rather than just a Houston thing, I think our FMA community will be in very good shape.

When did EK move back to Texas? Anybody have his old stick vs other weapons video? That was awesome.

I think it was last year, or the year before? I hadn't heard of him working with local groups until recently. I'm hoping to get my local pekiti group connected up with him in some fashion.
