    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    A question on armbars...

I'm a little confused as to which is better

putting the support foot under the ribcage as seen in the more traditional
    Jiu-Jitsu

or laying it across the body

    like in MMA

    please discuss

In my opinion the leg over the body seems to give more stead ability

Well thank God you put this in the Basic Technique forum after asking your qualified grappling instructor!

They both work and which one to use is situational rather than a question of absolute superiority. For example, to take the nearside arm from knee-on-belly you'd likely use the former, whereas to do so from the mount you'd almost certainly use the latter.

mhm, wrong section. and i'm sure you could find a 100 page thread on this somewhere if you did a search as well.

do you actually train any grappling in the first place or are you learning off youtube videos with your mates?

    to answer the question:

the reason you'd use one or the other has nothing to do with the fact that it's MMA, BJJ, judo, sambo or whatever. as pointy said, it's a matter of position - where you started in the first place. you're just choosing the best technique for the situation.

the first one can be easier to escape however, and i'll often do something like grab the nearest leg for better control.

That is why I always wear a cup while posting, a hit to the nuts is an expected byproduct of training/posting.
